BIG STUFF
It is said, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. Well, almost every property project is like that - especially the big ones; they just wear different clothes. I often think about my first high rise tower, Aurora in Duporth Avenue Maroochydore, I call it my first crane! Being 10 stories high, for efficiency and safety a tower crane is required to lift all the materials in place and hence grows higher as the project gets closer to completion. The ultimate property phallic symbol, yes, I know! but that was once important to me or, so I thought.
On thinking about that project I proudly claim that 'I Built it!' being the Project Director of the job - the developer if you will, but I was just one of many in a development team though we didn’t physically pour the concrete, erect the frames or set the windows. At the completion of a job, the site foreman, the head contractor, the designer, the developer, the painters, carpenters and as much as I hate to say it - even the bankers who fund the project to me can all claim they built the project.
So, with this in mind the following is a list of projects I have been heavily involved with. I can safely say I didn’t lay any bricks or nail any frames, though I did paint a few. On most I was either ‘the developer’ or the creator through bringing together the site and the user but not on all of them. In some I leased or sold key components (two of the most vital and overlooked parts in a successful project) but I always watched and learned something. If you see something here where you think my experience can assist just reach out and ask, if I don’t think I can help, I’ll just say so...
